and how about this little snippet of information?
Myth is derived from the Greek word mythos, which means "word of mouth."
?????? Mmmmmmmmm
All children learn MYTHS on their mothers knee ......
When you were 6 year old and starting school ... was YOUR Dad the best,
biggest strongest smartest dad in the entire world ..... or Not?
That's a "myth" but no doubt you also believed it to be 100%% True and the
REALITY, and there's nothing wrong in that because it's a symbolic part of
the human journey of life. We all go through that stage, if we don't major
psychological and spiritual problems manifest later in life to be re-visited
again. Symbology IS important. For the Greeks, their now called mythology
was also critical for children to progress through that society and culture.
Today, our children still have their "myths" but more often than not they
are sports stars, or teams, or Harry Potter. There is real meaning and
benefits in all manner of myth making. It's a part of being Human and
growing up in a Culture.
Religion is simply one single aspect of this, they use the importance of
"myth" to individuals to convey their particular values, but the process is
the same as believing your dad *was* the best in the world. [ No doubt
later, your opinion adjusted based upon other mythical values adopted from
your culture ].
One reason that Christianity took hold was convincing many people that the
ancient pagan beliefs were myths inspired by Satan, and that thier Christian
notion of spirituality and God was 100%% True and the Reality. Luckily they
had the mass media of it's day and the power to back them up. Not so long
later, another ideal arose that challenged the Christian churchs and the
best way to do that is point out all the "myths" there and present one's own
Path as REAL ...... naturally these things also take on an air of mythology
after time, eg Islam.
And all these things are intergrated within the family, the society and the
culture in which someone lives. It's a myth that G-strings make women more
sexually desirable, and yet it is so unbelieveable true [ depending on who's
wearing the G-string of course ]
So, if you're discussing ancient greek mythology, or Christian mythology, or
psychological mythology [ eg Freud created myths, and Jung used symbolic
mythology and encouraged people to recognise their myths, and the importance
of mythical images in dreams. ] or the Mickey Mouse myth of Disneyland, or
the Myth that democracy and capitalism is the ONLY and best way to go, and
so on and on it goes.
Most Americans believe in the myth that they live in the greatest nation on
Earth. of course it's self-delusion, but an important one for THEM.
Religous myths of themselves, are no less important, or real.
Bottom line??? You have your own myths, and one of them is the danger of
myths to others. But that is probably because you have yet to recognise and
confront your own self-deluding myths you have accepted as 100%% when they
are aren't.
So there's a reason why you enjoy projecting this issue onto others and find
them wanting, and believing you got it right. Maybe there's just a lot more
to this picture you need to look into. I don;t know, up to you. It's your
life, so live your myths by all means. There's a reason for everything no
matter how weird and rediculous it may look to others.
bonjour :-)
