Oprah's friend, Dr. Oz, says it need for sleep, sex, food, and something. My
biggest motivation is to pee.

I would think fear is de-motivational, preventing action.
Guilt is certainly the main motivation for buying flowers and/or jewlery...

The first half of my life was driven by sex. The second half has been driven
by Viagra...

Fear and guilt used to influence all my life decisions - I wont go into
the guilt thing (it stems from childhood and what another person did to
me!). Guilt-mongering has to be one of the most powerful forces, when
inflicted at an impressionable age. You do not *see* it until the
damage is done.
For me fear and guilt didnt turn my wheels at all - they were clogged
up.
I do not know when I decided to stop the fear and guilt but it has been
extremely liberating.

Well, I think an even deeper driver of behavior is 'pain'. [in all it's
various forms]. Such is the impetus behind 'fear' for example. Guilt is
another matter though...but not nearly so strong a force. IMO.
Pain will bring a person to their knees post haste. We are so high and
mighty in thought, but so weak of flesh to paraphrase an old cliche.

Then I'm sure you would have identified with part of the movie "The Green
Mile"...

Absolutely. In this case the word "influential" would replace motivational,
although it is amazing how motivated is one not to take a "bungee jump" ;-)

The only hard brake is the resistance to events. Certainty comes with
hindsight, although the grasp of the purpose of karma makes uncertainty of
foresight, exciting.

You seem to be in the majority with that experience Tracy.
