So how many souls are there in the universe? Does a soul get created
every time a human being is born so that there is always a 1:1 ratio,
or are there are bunch of souls with no bodies to inhabit just waiting
for someone to be born?
If the former, how do new souls get created?
If the latter, why are there so many "extra" souls?
If souls are not individual "things", but rather ubiquitous "energy",
then presumably there is just one big soul. So then does the single
soul somehow automagically individuate or fragment itself for the sake
of human evolution, or are we all just experiencing the same soul but
through different physical mechanisms? Put simply, do we each "have" a
soul?
Finally, is "soul" the same thing as "spirit"?
Just wondering.

Reincarnation research indicates that the same soul sometimes
incarnates in more than one body at a time. Since many lifetimes
are experienced, clearly there can be far less souls involved with
earth school than the total # of births on earth. It's also likely
that earth school is just one of many schools of choice.

Souls are individuated energy essences that contain many
personalities. Only in a ultimate sense is there just one "big"
soul ... or God. There are probably gods as well ... highly
evolved beings that create universes and structured reality
systems.

Reincarnation research? Do you mean the stuff based on "past life
regression"? I don't rule it out, but I have to admit I'm very
skeptical.
On a strictly anecdotal level, I talked to one individual who claims
that his past life transgression indicated he was a solder in the SS
in his previous life. I mean, if he would have said he was a
relatively anonymous peasant farmer from France or something it would
have been more believable, but to pick something as notorious and
spectacular as an ex-Nazi war criminal, the old BS hackles when up on
my neck, for better or for worse.

The regression approach is just one method. Check out the link at
my web site to the work of Ian Stevenson with young children.

Thank you Sean.

Aside from much excellent research suggestive of reincarnation, there
are now organized efforts to engage medical professionals and get more
of them to report unusual near death experiences they witness where
clinically dead persons later accurately report events that have
transpired in spite of being clinically dead and "brain dead".
It is heartening that among the seemingly endless new sciences that
keep on emerging, paranormal sciences are also growing and maturing.
One thing is certain. The human psyche is far more than hardheads and
official science like to pretend.

Cheers and all the best to you!
