As a person who is living in the very heart of Ozark Hillbilly Heaven
where nowadays you can't really tell the difference between a
Hillbilly and a Hippie of the old First Growth Electric Kool-Aid
Water, and as one of these latter who has been living in these
sublime, forested, hilly climes for the past 16 years, frankly, I
never was able to see a difference, as apparently, neither can they--
in my regard.
You got the kind who go to church every Sunday, tend to their own
business by keeping a good five to sixty acres between their little
piece of paradise and the next down the road. These are folk in whom
dwells the bounty of nature's grandeur with its priceless yield in a
live-and-let-live philosophy of a peaceful life which translates to
First-Growth-Hippie jargon as "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out,"
"Different Strokes for Different Folks" and "Do Your Own Thing."
But, you got that other sad-ass sort around here, who even above the
Mason/Dixon line at Jane and Powell MO have the rebel flag on plain
display out in the yard or on the ass-end of their gun-racked truck.
These are that "bitter" ilk with all the guns and hate and neurotic
need of a scapegoat that Obama was talking about. In other words, it
is your traditional southern Democrat of a bigoted white rural Hillary
voter.
In urban America, they're more apt to have a Palestinian flag flying
either from behind their nose or down in darkness of their black
hearts, where in the country a confederate rebel battle flag would be
hoisted--and once again, they ain't no kind of hippie or hillbilly
that would properly suit the definition for any Lil' Abner or Daisy
Mae that I have ever known for a neighbor.
In short, you got your redneck bigoted hicks, and then you got your
hillbillies. But the latter are these who tend to be peaceful and
cordial and full of the love of Jesus. Fact of the matter is that you
got just as many redneck hicks in the cities going around in a
backward yuppie hip hop cap, as you do in the country--where also
'backward' is as backward looks and does, and thinks ans stinks.
If you're a hillbilly who loves his Bible, you have to love the people
who gave you that book, or you sho'ly listening to some kind of
totally twisted preaching. If you love the Bible, you love the
Children of Israel.
Black people who found liberation power in the story of Moses and
Pharaoh for their own deliverance--they know of a deep and abiding
bond of similarity between their own story and that of Israel.'
You won't see any true hillbilly joining forces with the KKK and the
kind of killers or lovers of killers (like Rachael Corrie) who agitate
for the useless and needless formation of a Palestinian state.
Useless! Yes and needless just as the Black People of the U.S and the
Indians know; as also the Chicanos and Eskimos, who have no such
perverse, twisted need to push for a state of their own. To be living
under one flag with the rest of us, is somehow, oddly enough for them
and so they know an ego trip of violence and intolerance when they see
it--as the wrong way to go, the stupid way, the needless and usless
way, in short the *evil* or which is to say, hateful and crazy way to
go.
So I just don't get these so-called "conservatives" of American Jews
with all this irrational paranoia about Barack Obama. And I am
astonished to see so many among them, in their lack of affection for
McCain, actually throwing their support behind Hillary! Have they
lost their marbles? I think of one ordinarily sensible Jewish babe in
particular . . .
