Here is another contermporaneous reason why modern Israel exists.
The reader probably hasn't heard of this, and I hadn't either.
Most of Tajikistan's Jews voluntarily emigrated to Israel apparently
post Gorbachev.
However, 300+ stayed in their native country of reportedly thousands
of years.
Their synagogue was recently involuntarily razed.
This synagogue had been an essential part of their traditional
synagogue-centric culture.
I doubt if a mosque in Tajikistan has ever been involuntarily torn
down.

Robert, couldn't they also move to Australia, or the USA, or Japan even?
Why does it have to Israel? Seems you're spinning the reasons that Israel
exists. ;-)
Using this type of proposition, couldn't it also be reasonable to say that a
Taliban nation in Afghanistan existed so that others of like mind, who loved
extreme Sharia Law, and the abuse of women had some place to call home,
because they couldn't practice their "cultural norms" in Israel, or the UK,
or France, or Iran?
Is there a difference here?
Can I emmigrate to Israel as a non-Jew?
If not, why not?
[ no I'm not supporting the destruction of a synagogue, nor did i support
the destruction of the Buddhist statues in 2001, nor the destruction of
Mosques in Iraq by other Muslims, nor the destruction of Hindu/Muslim
buildings in India/Pakistan. ]

That is not a reason for Israel's existence.

The destruction of the Jews by the Nazis does not justify the
establishment by terrorism of a state which allows inward emigration
on racist principles, and enshines prejudice and discrimination as key
notions of allocation of resources within that state.
The discrimination and persecution of Jews over the centuries does not
justify the persecution of minorities by Jews of other people who now
live under the yoke of Jewish rule.
The fact that Jews have enjoyed the greatest possible advantages in
many western counties, notably the USA and UK for centuries should
provide as much satisfaction has it has for other minorities that have
also thrived. The Jews should not represent a special case and should
not be forgiven for the same evil that they themselves use to justify
their occupation of Palestine...
