here are a couple of questions to ponder.
we live, die and are re-incarnate.
our soul passes to a higher level and is re-born.
some things to ponder.
Where do souls come from? Once there were no people, so where there also no
souls?
The physical population is expanding, where do new souls come from?
If we became extinct tomorrow, where would all the souls go?
If the spirit world created the universe, where was the spirit world before
the universe was created?

The soul might just be a mechanical or biological process and it
happens whenever the right elements interact in a network of
relationships.

How do you know we die?
Have you asked?
And we are your enemy so do not try to be friends with us.

Soul is consciouness and you're right, birds and other animals (dunno
about slugs and socialists, they seem pretty stupid) possess it, until
death, matter remains, dust to dust.
A boby without a soul is a corpse, a soul without a body is a ghost.
