Hello all:
The NOVA television episode titled "Secrets of the Psychics" has
become something of a classic. It features illusionist extraordinaire
James Randi ("The Amazing Randi") as he presents an informal skeptical
case that much of what passes for "psychic phenomena" is actually just
trickery of the kind magicians have practiced for centuries.
The entire episode can now be viewed online: details below.
Among the many different investigations in the episode is a
collaboration between Mr. Randi and late night talk show host Johnny
Carson (the famous former host of "The Tonight Show" in the USA):
Johnny Carson had himself been a stage magician at one time, and he
was quite doubtful of the alleged psychic abilities of Uri Geller, the
"spoon bender" and demonstrator of other "psychic" powers.
We see Johnny as Uri Geller appears on his show and confronts a
challenge. (This will be seen at the end of Part 1 and the beginning
of Part 2 below.)
The whole episode is presented below via YouTube in six short parts.
It is well worth viewing.
