It may even be possible to argue that when small party makes a showing
it often reflects the ascendent major party.
Take the LP in 1980 when they almost got 1%% of the popular vote.
The Gipper was anti gummint and the LP was anti-gummint.
The gummint caused all problems according to the Gipster.
Since then tax cuts for the rich and the LP have become less and less
popular.
