> There Will Be Blood

There Will Be Blood
(Obama and the Bat)

It looked a bit Baraky to the Democrats that day;
The score was She to Who? with seven months left in the fray,
So when Dean Looney died of Hearst and Edwards clipped his mane,
A pal o'erwreathed the bleachers where the patrons saw McCain.

A straggling few got up to go to gas pumps that were dressed
In the "coin of greater value" that the Saudis had oppressed,
While others thought, "If only our Obama could get a whack at that!"
They'd put up money just to see Barak go at the bat.

But Mike upstaged Obama, with Edwards also there,
And the former was a midget and the latter was all hair,
So on that strychnined multitude a Global Glacier sat,
For it seemed to them the pantsuit was a cinch to add the Hat.

But Mike fell down in Iowa, and Edwards died in Mass.,
John looked to die of gallstones and the Reverend Wright of gas,
And when the chad was settled and the dialogue most stirred,
There were pantsuits ducking snipers, Puerto Rico fifty-third.

Then from the maddened media went up the strangest sell --
It rumbled in the ghetto, it rattled the oil well;
It struck among the writers and foreclosed the empty flat;
It raved that one Barak could swap his turban for the Hat!

Ten million weepers wiped him as he toured the streets and sticks;
Five thousand stations hyped him as he bowled a thirty six,
And when the writhing John replaced a pin within his hip,
Defiance gleamed Obama's eyes -- and blew another quip.

And now the leather-covered checkbooks waved for still more air,
And now Obama stood exhorting for a Fairer Share.
As close by three and ninety-nine the nation's gas pumps sped,
"New Style" sang staunch Obama. "Strike oil," the umpire said.

With a smile of Baptist charity Obama's visage shone;
He sneered the rising prices and he bade the game go on!
He signalled to the Middle East, once more the rockets flew;
Obama still ignored it. Said the umpire, "Iran, too!"

"Flawed!" cried the Limbaughed media, as Kerry echoed "flawed";
One toothy quip from their Barak and all were shocked and awed.
They saw his teeth gleam purest white, an Oreo of smiles,
And knew that they were now to see the Newest Style of Styles.

The sneer has left Obama's lip, the cash has left his plate;
He pounds with cruel violence the Bat for all his fate;
And now the Saudis hold the price, and now they let it go,
And now the air is shattered and the fallout starts to snow...

Oh, somewhere in this favored land, a truck will run all night;
A car is humming somewhere, and somewhere there's a light;
And somewhere men are working, and somewhere children eat,
But there is no joy in Washington: the Irish burned the peat.
