Psychiatry - a continuing social nightmare?

There is still an excellent case to be made for closing down the schools
of psychology and psychiatry and terminating the employment of those who
practice it. And I'm not even a scientologist:

The historical abuse inflicted on the public (lobotomy, electric shock,
quelling dissent, lifelong sedation, gassing patients, drugging kids
with laudanum) by these clinicians may be seen by some as various
atypical historical blips.

Yet today their practices are equally destructive. Now we find that
mysterious illnesses plague the human race, all of which can be tackled
by extensive, even life-long drugging regimes. An awestruck public
respectfully defer to a bogus chemical story that is offered as
justification for the correction of equally bogus pseudo-physical states
like 'disorder'.

Quick to denounce substances like LSD and marijuana which lie outside
their powers to control, psychiatry announces that the many murders
committed by people taking anti-depressant's is a problem of patient
origin - so it took the weight of public pressure and anecdote to make
the psychiatrists print suicide warnings on their 'anti-depressant'
packaging.
