post war

Does anyone remember the 70's and 80's sexual revolution?
Those 'You never had it so good' parents who ever reminded
you of how damned good you had it after the war years? and
reminded you of the poverty and hardship, the fact you
couldn't get paper to write on, that you MUST save string,
that there were kids who couldn't afford shoes to wear and
to 'window shop' meant that alone?

Did they encourage you to enjoy your life? to waste a few
years before settling down to marry? Did womens liberation
mean a chance to see a little before the inevitability of
finding your one true love, to marry and raise a child, and
when 'home economics' meant just that? if you had a fight
it ended in reunion because no-one, not even your best
mate, would take you in, 'cos it's your marriage, your choice'

Where is the pride gone in raising a little family anymore?
to mark the years with an anniversary and get through them
together and say 'I won't die alone without you' and to hear in
return 'I won't live if you go' and know someone meant it.

One part of this I think..

As machine technology has grown, humanity, or human-ness, has diminished.
When a lot of us go outside we see a world designed for our machines.
When you walk, you walk on the 'side'.

As our educational system becomes more specialized, self-reliance
diminishes.

100 years ago, most children knew that a potato came from the ground.
Today they come from Kroger.

It's good and it's bad.
