This is not mere demagoguery. Allowing
off-shore drilling will necessarily have a number
of beneficial effects:
1. It will create high-paying jobs.
2. It will change expectations concerning oil prices. Oil is
now in a bubble; this is obvious because it has risen at a
greater than exponential rate in the last couple years. That
is _not_ sustainable. Clearly, as with real estate, the
general trend is upwards, but a greater than exponential
increase is a sign of a bubble. The popping of the bubble
will require a change in expectations (concerning the value
of the dollar _and_ the value of the commodity in the bubble).
We all know that no matter how dumb Repuglicans
can be, Democrats are always dumber.
