Outside of scientific theory, Occam's razor can work quite well.
I consider more than just "simple explanation", but also to be the "most
obvious or likely" senario, is more often than not, the accurate way to look
at it.
It doesn't mean it is true, or should even be believed as true, but that,
all things being equal, one is best equipped to move forward in life by
judging things at face value, the most obvious, the most simple, or the most
likely, and proceeding from there with an open mind...... meaning being
open to more clarifying info coming along.
Such an approach usually leads to less errors over time, and usually means
much less conflict and wasted energies chasing all manner of possibilities
before choosing what decision or action to take in any given situation, or
matter of choice.
