(CNN) -- A navigation error pushed NASA's latest Mars mission fatally
close to the planet

Thursday, leaving the $125 million probe lost in space and possibly
destroyed.

Engineers had thought the Mars Climate Orbiter was approaching the red
planet at the correct

altitude before it fired its engine to slow itself down to 9,840 mph
so gravity could pull the

craft into orbit around Mars.

The engine fired properly but the spacecraft was hurtling along on a
course that brought it too

close to the planet's surface and deep into Mars' atmosphere.

"It potentially resulted in the loss of the mission," said Richard
Cook, manager of the Mars

Surveyor '98 program, which includes Climate Orbiter.

The probe came within 60 km (36 miles) of the planet -- about 100 km
closer than planned and

about 25 km (15 miles) beneath the level at which the spacecraft could
survive, mission members

said.

"We don't believe, on the spacecraft side, that it is survivable,"
said project manager John

McNamee. "It looks like something was wrong with the ground
navigation."

chance to hear from the Mars

Polar Lander passed amid unbroken silence from the planet Tuesday as
NASA squarely faced the

prospect that the craft was lost.

"After four increasingly difficult days, the Mars Polar Lander flight
team played its last ace

this evening," project director Richard Cook said early Tuesday
morning.

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena detected no signal from
the lander during a 10-

minute period shortly after midnight Tuesday morning Pacific time (3
a.m. EST).

"We were unsuccessful in our attempt to establish communications,"
said, adding, "Our

expectations for the success of the mission are remote at this
point."

NASA will continue attempts to reach the lander for about two more
weeks. But the agency said the

odds of success dropped off sharply after Tuesday morning's attempt
failed. "But we're really

expecting those are unlikely to result in successful communications,"
he said.

It was the seventh chance controllers had to hear from the craft since
its scheduled touchdown

Friday afternoon, one Cook called the program's "last silver bullet."

Controllers had been working on the assumption that the landing was
successful because the lander

was in excellent condition and on course just minutes before entering
the martian atmosphere.

Mission scientists had theorized that the lander had gone into a sleep
mode and turned off its

programs because of a malfunction. Now, scientists concede that the
scenario was too optimistic

and that the craft could have crashed or been damaged when it landed
near the red planet's south

pole.

The final, high-probability communications window began about 3:20
a.m. EST on Tuesday and ended

about 10 minutes later.

"Jardin du monde" = Garden of Eden or "Hanging Gardens of Babylon,"

Iraq.

"Cite neufue" = New York City. (i.e., Iraq near New York City), which

somehow involved, either directly or inderctly, in the September 11
attacks, or it could refer to

events in Iraq following the attack.

The "hollow mountains" links time, place, and action of the prophecy.
The "hollow mountains" is

Nostradamus' description of the two skyscrapers of the WTC.

"In the path of the hollow mountains" means what comes after the WTC
destruction.

Seized and plunged in the "Cuue" (i.e., in Renaissance French, a
fermentation
cauldron used for mixing chemicals, poisons, etc) is a reference to
the seizures and drowning

effects of a chemical/biological attack and/or modern day plague and/
or modern day flood

(tsunami?).

Notice "Cuue" is capitalized in the original quatrain (SEE ABOVE) to
show that this is the most

important element in the quatrain.

The poisoning of the water mentioned here is of an entirely different
nature, as boiling the

water or bottled water--if it were meant literally--could eliminate
the poison.

But this poisoning is far more serious as it cannot be avoided (i.e.,
forced to drink).

The drowning effects of pulmonary anthrax or some other chemical/
biological
poison is implied. Sulfur is a symbolic reference to brimstone (i.e.,
The Wrath of God). Water is

the way God destroys man during the "Flood."
