Today I find the popular science mags

You hit one of my favorites...I read alot from the 60's thru the
beginning of the 80's..When the trend went to "sword & sorcery" I
dropped out....
If you haven't read "Deathbird Stories" (from the 70's) by Harlan
Ellison (a non-scientific SF writer; i.e. SF= Speculative fiction),
reading it may be worthwhile....
