Dennis,
I tripped over this and decided to use your wonderful image, thank
you.
Morning Mozart
If my consciousness survives the demise
of ears, I'll most miss Mozart in the morning.
Mozart makes me merry; gives me pause,
makes me bow to pianos, horns and cellos;
makes me march, waltz and do the minuet;
makes me hum, tap my feet and wave my arms
and makes me wish to be immortal that I may hear
more of the same music from a hundred sources.
Stately sounds with ruffles and flourishes, like
wildflowers dancing with wet-combed wheat,
remind me to stand up and be counted alive
and aware of the effect of being a fellow human
whose twenty-fourth piano concerto will never
be written because I am not Mozart, but a mere
corporeal being who witnesses excellence in awe.
