But Campbell is real clear that in the Bronze age there is both a shift
in the cosmology and in the nomenclature. As Thucydides said,
revolutions change the meaning of words. The monotheistic Goddess was
first replaced by a divine couple, which is still seen in some of the
expressions in the Torah, then the female was downgraded and removed
entirely.

The party animal was the Goddess. And it wasnt only wine. They used
shrooms, opium, and pot as well. Alcohol was not favored cause it so
often resulted in violence. Lotsa sacred orgies were given in the name
of the Goddess, a tradition that persisted in India with Kali.

But with the wheel and writing and the expansion of trade in the bronze
age, STDs came along for the ride, and so monogamy was pushed to protect
women. A dude could get the clap on the war path, but got over it before
he got back home. A woman would have an internal infection that was
often fatal. And no longer able to provide sexual services to many men,
lost control over them.

Course, now there are safe sex techniques and diagnostics to prevent
those problems, while at the same time weapons have become uncontrolled.
