Yikes, cross-posted to 5 active and no doubt controversial
newsgroups! At least there'll be no shortage of replies,
so I can keep my contribution mercifully short for once.

For me, it's very simple: foundations are Chapter 0 of
the textbook, without which Chapter 1 doesn't make any
sense.

(But one doesn't attempt to /write/ such a Chapter 0
until one has read an awful lot of books, which I
haven't done yet.)

FW(L)IW, I think that.

Renormalization techniques in Quantum ElectroDynamics clearly indicate
that physics has come to an end. It hasn't to be "advanced" anymore (at
least not in the directions everybody thinks that are interesting). And
by the way, other sciences need more progress than physics: our society
is so primitive that it is in shrill contrast with our technology.
