Just who or what specifically and exactly is a role model?
Not be confused with either a mentor or alter-ego.
What is either the rationale or criteria for a role model?

A mirror neuron is a neuron which fires both when an animal acts and
when the animal observes the same action performed by another
(especially conspecific) animal. Thus, the neuron "mirrors" the
behavior of another animal, as though the observer were itself acting.
These neurons have been directly observed in primates, and are
believed to exist in humans and in some birds. In humans, brain
activity consistent with mirror neurons has been found in the premotor
cortex and the inferior parietal cortex.

A carbon copy of everyone else.
A mold that you made, that everyone else tries to fit into.

Someone who confirms that we have some semblence of purpose in our
life, particularly in our earlier years.
If you "have it in you" to be a forger, thats where your path will
take you. You will engage the remarkable laws of synchronicity. Of
course, this takes action, otherwise one will simply become a passive
observer.

I would say more the case of the mould maker trying to fit others into
such molds. Meeting the need to belong to a 'group consciousness'.

Emulating the behavior of another.

'Rational' is dodgy here as is a conscious choice. Base criteria is in a
security need. Parents are usually the first role models due to the
simple fact that a young person knows little else.
If one is faced with an unfamiliar situation and must make behavioral
choices, 'acting like' another who has gone through the same situation
gives a certain type of self-confidence. That's one type.
Another, it seems, is more akin to hero worship. People want to change
their own behavior to be more like that of their hero. The celebrity and
advertising industries are designed to offer this.
