Nope. At one point we had a Theory that gravity could bend light.
It looked good on paper. And some guy that you've obviously never
heard of (named Einstein) had something of a reputation for doing
doing pretty good work on paper.
Then, years later, that Theory was PROVEN to be a FACT.
