If we look at our day to day conversations, it is easy to see why many
are confused with the subject matter.(could read "the subject;
matter"..same point.)
If we apply simple laws of semantics, we are continually 'fusing' our
'cons'....
Do you see the mind as your "I" dentity, or perhaps the brain as the
ultimate entity?(the id entity?)
If so, why speak as though there is a third entity, and refer to it as
the 'posessor' of the other two. Of course, if you bring the body into
the chain, why not refer to it as the mind or the brain's body.
Figure of speech?
Not at all. Just a signal from the "alien" within waiting to be
recognised.
S E T I ?
Carl Sagan got it right with his movie "Contact".

I like the science idea that when many nerve cells are active together
this "I" thing happens. When these nerve cells are active together
they may pull in or even produce some strange quantum stuff, who
knows, but initially the brain is probably enough or a sufficient
explaination for all that the "I" is.

interesting... what happens when the brain is deprived of sensory
information? Doesn't the 'I' become lost and confused?

Some people go completely insane when this happens - have you ever spoken to
someone that has spent some time in a floatation tank?

No, just the projections of "I". The sensory world "is" a world of
confusion. As people grow they go through a stage of discontent,
because they see thier hopes and aspirations dissapear. Time to get
real.
