Hearing voices

Isn't hearing voices considered a sign of serious pschiatric problems?
Yet, there are psychics on television competing for prize money ...
"The American Psychic" something or other, authors often hear the
voices of their characters while writing books, evangelists talk to God,
ie hear God's voice, Hillary Clinton used to talk about having some
kind of conversations with Eleanor Roosevelt, on and on ..., no?

So why is it that some people become famous and attract wealth while
others are committed and stigmatized with a label as detrimental as
schizophrenic or psychotic or delusional?

If a doctor and society are challenged by your thoughts then it is a
sign that you are really ill.
If a doctor and society are not challenged by your thoughts then it is
a sign that you may not be really ill.

It's considered mentally unsound to talk to spirits.
Still, many get away with it.
