Hillary will do a lot better better than the Dem congress.

Fundies, tax cutters and border bigots won't vote for McCain. Ever.
Look at the rightards here on newsgroups attacking John like there's
no tomorrow.

She'll get 15+ %% against McCain and that's assuming Huck, Bloomie and
others aren't spoilers.

Even many Republicans think it will be more than that. _National
Review_ wrote last month that as gloomy as they are, reality is even
worse for the GOP.

I might go even further:

You know what happened to the Conservative Party in Canada and the
Tories in the UK?

Well that's what's happening here with the GOP.

It should have happened here first because this is where democracy
ideas originated but as they say, the bigger they are the longer it
takes for them to fall.

It takes a great event to start a party.

The great event here was cheap communications.

A new major party may now be possible but it'll have to be done by
someone other than the looneytarians or Nader.

Agreed. The coalitions each of the major parties have inherted are no
longer logically consistent.
Abortion is a dead issue cause herbs for that are now available, the
cheap communications you refer to making that possible. Torture is
ineffective, but the new lie detection technologies are not. Crime is
not evil, but mental pathology that needs to be dealt with using
psychotropics that include recreational drugs under supervision.
Including Alcohol.

But I just cant think of a single national figure who is rational enuf
to get into all this, or even a forum where isses can be discussed
beyond the limits of partisan group think.

Great idea ... munch a handful of leaves, and never mind the other
biologically active components. Makes a coat hanger sound safe by
comparison.

Clinton's most foaming at the mouth critics will agree that Clinton is
rational and smart.

You mite wanna do a little more research. Modern wiccans are. There
are two classes of compounds which I know of so far. Given that
witches used Bachelor Button, Queen Anne's Lace, Blessed Thistle, and
wild yam for centuries, or even millennia, and still use some of these
in primitive cultures, if they had the problems you try to suggest,
the women would have figured it out by now.

Agreed. But I dunno that even she will be free enough from partisan
group think to figure it out. Like neurotic denial, people use their
smarts to innovate reasons for thinking like they already do, rather
than open their minds to wider options.

But it is the campaign season, she hasta stay within the parameters of
group think to get elected. After, then we get to see if she can see
past the logical inconsistencies.
