Georgia v Russia: Serious Dispute Gets Worse Today

www.nytimes.com

I don't have anything to pontificate--ugly politiks are ugly
politiks, nuthin new about hegemony and border disputes.

The USA itself has its own not honorable, guilt free Latin America
"backyard" history of course.

See also Chernobyl, which has both a religious & apparent oil angle in
its rebellion.

The Georgia capital Tblisi (I think) is "sister city" of Atlanta.

I presume Russia does not want Georgia to align itself too much with
the West, and think I understand" Russia's paranoia, having read one
entire book 40-50 years ago by gosh.

A nostalgic PETER THE GREAT & chauvanist Stalinist mentality is very
pisssed by perceived Georgian disloyalty, I supose.

Russia is reportedly threatening to began re-subsidizing Cuba, approx
one miilion dollars a day, since Mother Russia is currently rolling in
oil, natural gas and high demand minerals for the India and China
booms.

Moscow is reported as booming too. How is the economy outside of
Moscow? Seemingly vastly improving.

So why does that matter?

re: Why important?

God question, thank you, especially vbrcause there are new
developments today.

Geogia has had two thousand troops serving in Iraq, and now they've
moved back home.

In other words Georgia is an ally of the U,S.

There are now apparently two "breakaway" provinces of Georgia, which
means agitation, civil strife, & could well be made into a precursor
to worse by mach "playing of chicken."

Should the U.S. physically intervene? Now? When?

I think your specific point has to do with international morality and
sphere of influence.

For Russia, Geogia is (seemingly) a Mexico (no analogy can be exactly
perfect)

The place is a genuine mess, with a lot of hubris
all around, enough to make the mess grow.
