What are we talking about?
http://lhcconcerns.com/
In May of 2008 the largest, most expensive scientific experiment, The Large
Hadron Collider will be completed. This mechanical behemoth located along
the French and Swiss border with a total estimated circumference of 17 miles
will be the most powerful particle accelerator in existence. The principal
behind a particle accelerator is that by speeding up the smallest elements
of matter and then colliding them together that they can be broken down
further into even smaller fundamental particles, just as Atoms were once
thought to be the smallest units, so then were Quarks(Up and Down),
Electrons, and Protons discovered.

The Large Hadron Collide is hoped to discover what is referred to as the
"Higgs Boson". Although a theoretical scalar particle theorized by Peter
Higgs in 1974, it is actually a member of the standard model, and it is
believed that the Higgs Boson is what gives matter "mass". To achieve the
observation of the Higgs Boson, the LHC will be smashing these Hadrons
(specifically Protons) together at speeds almost unimaginable to the average
person, at near c( .99999999 %% the speed of light).

Because you don't know anything about physics? Because you can't
read? Because you never read anything in the newsgroups you blew
this across? It has been a constant topic in many of these
places for several years.

I have, years ago. Where were you? :-)

I'd go with both options, lack of interest [ no naked babes or tits out at
the Superbowl ], and incapable of understanding. I mean, there's a lot more
things simpler than an LHC that the average Americans are incapable of
understanding. LOL

There is no risk of damaging the Earth with this machine.

Just because 99%% of the activities worth saving don't make the
news, do not denigrate your fellow Man. We have not come all
that far from the Sumerians... in how we deal with one another.
But we do still have open arms for our friends...

Sean's cynical whining -- I think it's the same guy -- is sometimes
very valuable. He complained about Americans' carbon intensive
lifestyle which prompted "carbon labling."

Similar to and along side nutritional labling on packaged foods, the
EPA MPG stickers on motor vehicles and MSDS sheets, manufacturers
could provide information or a rating as to the CO2 impact of buying
their products.

Most consumers don't have the time or ability to do a global energy
balance before every purchase and simply aren't aware of the
consequences of their actions.

Mere labling, of course, only allows the environmentally responsible
to get a foot into the political door. The situation is similar to
the "tragedy of the commons" and the initial voluntary "unilateral"
aspect of it would eventually be replaced with regulations and/or
taxes to reduce CO2 output.

Human Nature has not changed one iota in the last 250,000 years.

No matter how clever our technology or science, we are still what we
always have been in our hearts and soulds. We are the smartest, baddest
apes in The Monkey House.

Americans are ignorant and can't think critically... but YOU can,
right? So how is it that you've bought into all that "greenhouse gas"
CO2 AGW bullshit? Never looked critically at a CO2 IR band I take it?
Instead you "think critically" by believing all the rubbish a bunch of
politicians with personal interests spew? Sheesh!

Heh. Yeah it IS located in the right spot! France. Let's hope they
export a bunch of wine and cheese BEFORE they fire it up!
