One of my least favorite movies. However, you missed the point.
The implication of the movie is that most of us are experiencing a
virtual world which has the illusion of being reality. We think we are
experiencing a real world, but it is only a software simulation that
mimics some aspects of the real world as it was in the distant past.
Note that the virtual world doesn't have to be synonymous with the
real world, but it vaguely resembles it. The space ship, the
Nebuccadnezzer, exists in the real world as it is now. The pods exist
in the real world. However, the real world has different rules than
the virtual world.
In the virtual world of the matrix, the laws of physics as known
by scientists (also in this illusion) usually apply. Some people have
learned "software errors" that enable them to violate these laws in
specific ways.
This explains why some psychics and wizards occasionally work.
One young wizard who bent keys in his hand with his mind said, "The
trick is really remembering there is no key, there is no hand." Any
viewer will realize he is precisely correct, because he is in a pod
where there is no key and where his hand is restricted in motion. He
isn't bending the key, he is just using a glitch in the software to
transmit the idea of key bending to other pods. However, this is an
anomaly. The laws of physics almost always apply.
In the real world, different laws of physics apply. In this real
world, there are either are no laws of thermodynamics or there is
different set of laws of thermodynamics. In this world, human beings
are a source of power. They generate power themselves. The human body
creates energy from nothing. This energy is harvested by the Machines,
who use some of it themselves and use the rest to keep the human
beings alive.
Thus, the movie demonstrates that human limitations are just a
matter of atitude |:-)
