It's hard to tell if agents of change are like that because they are
inherently less constrained by the norms of society or because after
-- or before if it's anticipitated -- they are widely villified they
are less inclined to humor the rest of society. Or some combination
of the above.
Or maybe they are like everyone else in most respects and it just
seems surprising for them to have the same issues. A commentator
originally confused by Steinbeck's marriages finally concluded, "he
was just a really good writer."
In any event they often give their enemies plenty of ammunition that
blows up in their faces.
Several years before Monica some articulate "wag" noted that the
Clinton administration trying to manage scandals was like trying to
keep puppies in a basket.
It's hard to imagine anything with a broader sappy political appeal
than a basket of puppies.
