Are we really doomed?

Is there a reasonable explaination of why the human race is doomed?
Why is it that everyone I talk to is afraid of dates such as 2012? It
it the number? Are they scared? or are they hoping for it?

It used to seem obvious to me that we were going to destroy ourselves
somehow, but it really doesn't anymore. Now I feel a bit more
optimistic, that is to say, I believe we are a strong species and we
can withstand anything as long as we are able to adjust and evolve.
But do any of YOU think we can?

It seems inevitable to have to roll with the punches (so to speak) but
is it possible to convince everyone before we all die of our own
accord?

We as a people have for the 63 long years that we have known about
nuclear bombs...managed not to blow ourselves to kingdom come.
I say if we can do it for that long, we have it in us to keep it from
happening.

The Human Being will live on but as a new species that humans create via
genitic engineering. It will take a few hundred years, but it will level
out and becomne so. For a long time there will be a mediating mule-form
useful for the migration to the completely new species. The new species
will evolve from those who have great social (financial) power.

Darwin's evolution is finished. We take over from here. It is the only
way that humankind can evolve with the same pace as technological
acceleration.

If you believe in reincarnation, well then you have a whole new thread
to invent. Do that.

---------- This is what I meant by evolution. I suppose I should have
been more specific.

---------- Exactly what do you mean by that? I don't understand.

Scratch that last sentance... I had a brain fart and got what you
meant right after I posted it.

Beliefs are beliefs, and are not worth a pinch of salt.

So how far have we come regarding your belief that man can create
life?

The need , hope and expectation exist regarding the future of the
human race, is perhaps the ultimate attempt of the individual to
objectify the subjective.
