Why has the issue of meaning moved to the foreground in this
postmodern era? What are some of the competing theories from the 19th

1. The standard well practiced meaning giving stories are "wearing thin".
2. The liberals are actively destroying the standard well practiced meaning giving stories.
3. Science methods allow the questioning of standard well practiced meaning giving stories.
4. Science methods present a situation far stranger than any human confabulation.
5. Modern drugs allow confrontation of meaninglessness with less destruction.
6. Meaning is being recognized as a personal psychological need, not just
a cultural need.
7. People are living longer, so ask such questions in their age.
8. We need some new religions.
