supposedly, antigua's small island economy much depends on u.s.
bettors--i believe it, as i have so indulged in that sinful fun, and
it's a cliche that sports betting is a multi-billon business
i think my reference is an article by reuteurs or a.p. but i didn't
link it last night when i should have
antigua's legalistic point is that by allowing certain domestic
internet and phone gambling on horse and dog racing, the u.s. is
discriminating against off-shore foreign bookies blah blah blah
folks, we be hoisted on our own folk mores and contradictory backsides
i hope antigua is successful in enforcing its world trade kvetch,
while they're no doubt being advised-encouraged by some philadelphia
lawyers
(if singer harry belafonte reads this, i now vaguely recall his
"lisbon antigua" on the back of "day-o" or perhaps "jamaica farewell"
circa 1950s, perhaps predecessor to jimmy buffet style calypso or
whatever it is)
