Hi,
Mandriva 2008.1 free

I am looking at getting a DVB-T tuner.
A local shop recommended the PCI-E Leadtek Winfast
PxDTV2300H card for use with linux. I have visited
LinuxTV.org to check for support, but this card is
not listed.

Googling for "PxDTV2300 H" and "linux driver" has
not been successful, making the search more open
results in lots of pages relating to windows with
this card, and a linux advertisement in the side-bar.

Has anyone got this card running?
Where might I start looking for drivers?

I'm happy to get the Power Pack version of Mandriva
if this is the solution.

Thanks for all help
Chris Roy-Smith

I downloaded a 2.6.26 kernel from kernel.org and have been playing around with
configuring it for use on my x86_64 2008.0 system. So far it works quite
well, but i have one problem i just cant figure out how to address. During
boot i see the message about starting the HAL and then it prints a dot every
few seconds, 30-40 seconds later it says Build Failed code 10. I searched var
log, checked dmesg and cant find any HAL messages at all. I'm 99%% sure that
there is something i need to turn on or off in the kernel config that solves
this, any ideas?
Thanks
Eric

I posted this to the GIMP group, but I'm repeating it here because I
think it's more an issue with the printer drivers than with GIMP. I'd
appreciate any advice anybody can give me.

> I'm using GIMP 2.4.6 and the Pandora plugin with Mandriva 2008.1
> Linux and an HP Officejet 6110 printer to create some panorama
> photos. But, printing a mountaintop view on US Legal-sized paper
> gives me an image that's about two inches tall. That's not what I had
> in mind at all. The printer manual says that the printer can print on
> "banner paper," essentially old-style fanfold paper with the pinfeed
> strips removed. However, neither hplip or Gutenprint will let me
> print on that kind of paper. The hplip driver doesn't even offer
> "Custom" as an option for paper size, and while Gutenprint offers it,
> it won't allow me to set it to any more than 8 1/2 x 14 inches - US
> legal-size.
>
> Am I missing something here?

TJ

System is AMD ATH 64 X2 4050e. MB is an ASUS M2A-VM, 2gb memory, video
card is 7900GT.

Installed Mandriva One Spring 2008 onto the system hard drive from the
CD without problems, all the updates downloaded and installed, system is
current. System runs fine, but only seems to see 1GB of memory instead
of the 2GB installed. XP installed on a different hard drive sees 2GB.

Is there any reason would only see 1GB?

TIA

I have a collection of related video files that I would like to put on a
single DVD, but they total about 150 MB too much. The file extension on
the files is .avi, but I'm not sure of the format - probably Divx. Is
there something available for Mandriva 2008.1 that will let me shrink
those files just a little so they'll fit? I wouldn't mind losing a few
minutes of credits on the end of each file, or I could change the
bitrate a bit. I'd rather use a single app, but I'm flexible enough to
use multiples if necessary. Since I'm not a command line kind of guy
anymore, I'd rather have something with a gui interface, if possible -
and in English would be nice.

Any ideas?

TJ
