Running Mandriva 2007 spring (.1 I think?).

I have always depended on the Mandriva Online Update applet that runs
on the desktop toolbar to notify me when there are updates to
installed packages. I have applied these at least once every week.

However, for the last week and a half, there have been no updates
reported (icon has stayed a green circle with check mark). When I
right click it to check updates, it goes orange for a minute, then
flips back to green again, signifying no updates were found.

I cannot believe that there have been no updates published in the last
ten days or so. My network connection is good, and I believe that all
of the source libs in Mandriva Linux Control Center have not changed.

Where can I look? Also, where are the logs for what has previously
been updated?

Thanks,

Jim

  mcc, configure a UPS?

Author: David Mathog

On a 2007.1 system I want to try configuring nut to control a tripplite
SU1500RTXL2Ua UPS. The UPS has been running under TrippLite's
PowerAlert software on a serial connection, but I am curious to see if
nut could control it over a USB connection. The UPS was connected to
the system by a UPS cable (in addition the existing serial one), and
messages showed:

Unfortunately, in MCC -> Hardware the "set up UPS for power monitoring"
is not selectable. I tried doing:

  RAID Question

Author: dnoyeB
Date: May 6, 2008 11:30

I have a 3ware pata 2-port raid card. I have 2 160GB drives on it. I
have a 3rd drive that I keep in a safe deposit box off-site. I swapped it
for one of my other drives before. I thought I would keep a monthly
rotation going and it would preserve my data in case my house burned down
or something.

Well today I tried to swap in the other drive, but it would not accept it.
The array showed as degraded and the swapped in drive showed as
"incomplete drives." So I could not do anything with it.

Since it worked before I am wondering if I must erase the drive manually
before I attempt to add it to the array? If so, I don't mind doing that
eventhough its making my simple backup strategy not so simple anymore.
Just wondering what is going on!? Is perhaps a feature missing from my
inexpensive RAID card?

Thanks!

I posted in linux.dev.raid but that group seems a bit dead.

  Time to upgrade from 2.6.17-5mdv?

Author: dnoyeB

I'm running Mandriva Linux 07 I think!? It says I installed it or built
it on 9/13/2006. And the version says 2.6.17-5mdv.

How many versions behind am I? Is it worth it to upgrade? Is the upgrade
simple or do I have to blow the OS away, and do an install from scratch.
(which I know I should but I'm feeling lazy so looking for an excuse.)

Thanks!

  Firefox: Multi-column Bookmark display?

Author: Maurice Batey
Date: May 6, 2008 09:14

Using Firefox 2.0.0.13, when selecting a bookmark the bookmark
list is displayed in one column, which I find tedious.

Somewhere I saw that there is a multi-column 'fix', but not for
the Linux version of FF.

Anyone here know of any multi-column fix for Linux FF, please?

  Lost Storage devices icon

Author: Alan Secker

Embarrassing this. A colleague on mdv 2007 has lost his desktop devices
icon. Although I can find the icon itself, for the life of me, I cannot get
it to work. How should I do it?

  Radeon 3870 -- Mandriva 2008.1?

Author: Carlie J. Coats

I'm getting ready to buy a new machine for home use / environmental
modeling--will be using it for very high resolution scientific graphics.
The obvious choices would seem to be NV 9600GT and ATI Radeon 3870.
(or else spend more than I can justify to my wife for a QuadroFX or
FireGL workstation card).

If I'm reading correctly, the Mandriva 2008.1 release does not support
the former, but does the latter (although not 3870 X2). Is that right?

And if so, how big can I make the XORG virtual display support?
I routinely run 2800x2400 on a Quadro 4500 at the office; will the
3870 support virtual displays that large?
