  2008.1 mouse problem

Author: Keith
Date: Jul 4, 2008 02:04

Hi,

I've now done a fresh install of 2008.1, and two of the functions on my
mouse (Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0) are not working. The wheel
itself works to scroll up and down, but the push-wheel-left and
push-wheel-right, which provided scroll left and right respectively
under 2008.0, no longer work.

I've looked in the Configure Your Computer->Hardware->Pointer Device
tool, but can't see any way to get this functionality.

Can anyone suggest a solution, please?
Thx.

  Flash for 64-bit Firefox3

Author: Jim Beard
Date: Jul 3, 2008 16:23

Does anyone have flash working with 64-bit Firefox 3?

I have installed gplflash, but it seems to prompt
complaints that my version of flash is too old.

I would expect Adobe flash could be made to work with
ndiswrapper, but I have yet to install that wrapper
and would prefer to avoid doing so unless I know it
would work.

Cheers!

  Need Good Color Printer

Author: CL dnoyeB Gilbert

I'm looking for a good color printer. I like the Brother MFC-5440CN I have
but I am exceedingly annoyed at its refusal to print when any of its 4 ink
cartridges are "empty." Anyone know of a printer that will print until ALL
of its cartridges are truly empty? With network connectivity and even
maybe a web screen?

Thanks,

CL

I have been sporadically trying to master the conversion of an .m2t file
created by Kaffeine into a form that can be burned by k3b to DVD that in
turn can be played on a regular DVD player. However I am not sure the
stages that I have executed so far have been handled correctly. My test
file is a recording of The Bourne Supremacy, a 2.1GB .m2t file.

ProjectX generate:
The Bourne Supremacy[1[.mp 57.1 MB
The Bourne Supremacy[1[.$mpL$ 2.0 MB
The Bourne Supremacy[1].$mpR$ 0 MB
The Bourne Supremacy_log.txt 15.4 KB
The Bourne Supremacy.m2v 1.8 GB
The Bourne Supremacy,mp2 171.2 MB
The Bourne Supremacy.$ts$1.pts 225.8 KB
The Bourne Supremacy.$ts$3.pts 541.6 KB
The Bourne Supremacy.$ts$4 2.9 KB
The Bourne Supremacy.$ts$4,pts 0 MB

To run the mplex command line, I put the title name in quotes. i.e.
#mplex -f8 -o "The Bourne Supremacy.vob" ......

  Firefox Flash Crashes

Author: Dave Farrance
Date: Jul 2, 2008 08:27

I've got Firefox 3.0 with plugins like Flashplayer 9.0.124.0 and
mplayerplugin-3.50-3. All up to date, so I can play most web videos,
when Firefox doesn't mysteriously shut down that is.

I don't know if it's just trouble on my system, or if there's bugs in the
packages. If anybody else is up to date with the video plugins, could
you select one of the videos on this page and say what happens:

  S L O W wireless c o nn e cti o n ....

Why would I only get 500-800 bits per second on my wireless adapter in
an old Compaq E500 machine equiped with a Cisco PCMCIA network adapter.
This is using Mandriva 2008.1. With 2008.0 I was getting well into the
megabits per second network rates. I'm stumped.

Thanks....

  2008.1 and Nvidia?

Author: red floyd

I just installed 2008.1, and I can't get the nVidia drivers to
install. I installed the xorg, dkms, and kernel package and still
have the "nv" drivers in my xorg.conf.

What do you have to do to get the nvidia drivers installed on 2008.1?

Is Firefox 3.0-3 from the backports the official release?

Author: Dave Farrance
Date: Jul 1, 2008 01:56

Is the Firefox 3.0 in the Mandriva repository the official release?

firefox-3.0-3mdv2008.1.i586 in the main backports is described as:

"This Firefox 3 Release Candidate is a preview release of Mozilla's next
generation Firefox browser and is being made available for testing
purposes only."

And yet the changelog and datestamp suggests that this is based on the
Firefox 3.0 official release. I don't want to install release
candidates, when I've only got to wait a little while for a release, and
anyway, I've been having enough issues lately with various standard
2008.1 packages. And I'm not going to get the generic Linux version from
Mozilla, because although most people find them OK, there's likely to be
extra work involved in its future maintenance and update.

What's prompted this is that I stumbled across a site, the Washington
Post, that dumped on my Firefox 2.0.0.14. When I arrived at a story
there, after following a link from Digg, that page's Google-powered
rotating adverts popped up a very nasty "anti-virus" site.

  Freedom to Surf

I had added a new email account to my domain but it could neither
successfully send nor receive. I gather that since Tiscali acquired F2S,
this is the kind of new feature that I can expect. As renewal comes up next
month, can someone recommend a reliable alternative?
