Greetings!
I've got an 120 gig external hard drive that I plan on using for my MP3
collection. What filesystem would be best to use?
Orginally I had it formatted with vfat, but hey, no easy way to defrag it
under Ubuntu. I still need to access it with WinXP via my local network.
Thanks for any useful advice or links.

When you go into court, you are putting yourself in the hands of 12 people
who is not smart to enough to get out of jury duty.

Have a new asus eeepc - got it for the wife for Christmas. Didn't care at
all for the xandros that was installed, so went Debian route. FWIW - there
was about 450mb free after install (took desktop, laptop options) and was
able to get to about 1.3gb with 'aptitude clean' and 'apt-get clean'. The
only thing I see that's not working is that the gnome network panel icon
shows the wireless network as not connected, even though it is. At any
rate, it's a big improvement. Stuck in an 8gb SDHC card (OfficeMax - $20)
for /home (this is the 900a from bestbuy - had only a 4gb sdd).

Has anyone installed Bacula or does anyone know how to install it using
the Synaptic Package Manager and linking it with OpenSSL?

I have recently installed Debian (kernel 2.6.18-486) on two computers
and they both exhibit the same problem, failure to send email through
stmp.
Actually I have installed two copies of Debian and two copy of mepis
(kernel 2..6.15-27-desktop) on two different machines, all of which
have exhibited the same problem.
E-mail clients used are Thunderbird, Icedove and Kmail, . The accounts
were both pop and imap, i.e., I configured the account, client and
server for one type of account, tested and re-configured to the other
protocol and re-tested.
All clients acted exactly the same. Receiving mail from either POP or
IMAP accounts worked perfectly but sending through smtp fails, i.e.,
the notice "contacting smtp.gmail.com" is displayed and then after
several minutes the service times out.
The mail account is gmail.com in all cases.
Finally, I have thunderbird installed on a Windows computer using
exactly the same settings and account and it works perfectly.
It appears to me that there may be a problem with port 587 (the gmail
proscribed smtp port) - at least that is all I can think of.

The problem Debian has with Firefox and Thunderbird is that the logos

This problem is backed by a stipulation from Mozilla that Firefox may
only be called Firefox if it uses their logos and I believe the source
code needs to be fairly if not completely untouched.
So in this case, I'm sorry to report that you're incorrect and that IW

My sister's Ubuntu Gutsy home server, just a basic Ubuntu Gutsy
install with GUI, somehow magically goes to "sleep" every so often for
unknown reasons (suspend). It is a little Dell desktop. It can wake up
if power button is pressed. But this is not the behaviour that one
expects from servers. We want it to be up all the time. What gives?

Hi Everyone,
I am running a Debian based Email server with Exim4 MTA, Courier IMAP,
Squirrelmail, CLamAV & Spamassassin. I could not get the Clamav to
scan any of my incoming mails. advice, pls, thks.
I could do manual scanning with clamdscan though.
My configurations are:
/etc/exim4/conf.d/main/01_exim4-config_listmacrosdefs/
# Just for reference and scripts.
# On Debian systems, the main binary is installed as exim4 to avoid
# conflicts with the exim 3 packages.
exim_path = /usr/sbin/exim4
# Macro defining the main configuration directory.
# We do not use absolute paths.
.ifndef CONFDIR
CONFDIR = /etc/exim4
.endif
# debconf-driven macro definitions get inserted after this line
UPEX4CmacrosUPEX4C = 1

2.If there is a fix or patch how can i install it?

I dont want to auto boot into x. i want to boot to the console cause i
learn more about the system that way - always. if i want x then i should
need to just type 'startx'.
This is the set up i want. But, as everyone knows, the default setup is
for gdm to auto start. Today, i thought i would simply disable gdm. In
gnome app that configures some start-up services, i toggled the option to
disable gdm. However, i got a warning saying that this could 'change the
system behaviour in many ways'. This freaked me out, so i just left it
until i get some answers from fellow console users.
I have used freebsd before and i always used startx. There was a problem
with permissions though e.g i could not alter configuration files in x,
unless i booted with gdm enabled in a config script. Apart from this,
there were no other problems i noticed.
In theory, there should be no problems cause the xorg server is totally
separate from any display manager like xdm, kdm, gdm. I suppose there could
be problems with xwrapper if x is started other than through a dm. But i
really need to know what the actual experience has been from people who
prefer the console - startx approach.
