A grounding appears to have led to a shooting Sunday night in Deweyville.
Newton County Sheriff Capt. Ricky Hall said Phillip Dans caught his
14-year-old son smoking a cigarette Sunday and grounded him.
Later that night, as Dans lay in bed, he was shot twice in the chest at
close range with a .22 caliber rifle. His son has been accused in the
incident.
Dans was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hosptial where Hall said he is in
stable condition with a "couple surgeries" to go.
Hall said he expects Dans to make a full recovery.
Meanwhile, the son was taken to the Hardin County Juvenile Detention Center
in Kountze.
Hall said the teen is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly
weapon.
