Depending on the age of Don Berg mentioned in the above cite, I either went
to Key Biscayne Elementary school with him or with his son who I knew as
Donnie Berg.
As far as the Jamaican Inn I don't recall being there except maybe once.
I looked up the JI and see it has an atrium in the restaurant which was a
feature in another Key Biscayne restaurant, the Flamingo Inn. The Flamingo
Inn burned to the ground while I was still living on Key Biscayne and I
don't know if the atrium idea was later adopted by the Jamaican Inn or if
they had one of their own all along.
While living on Key Biscayne my family belonged to the Key Biscayne Yacht
Club. Back in those days we had Richard Nixon, BB Reboso [ who was also
Commodore of the KBYC ], Dockmaster Norman Riddle who's brother was Nelson
Riddle, and all sorts of celebs and famous characters running around in
our midst. Reboso was famous for getting plastered and falling off the
docks at the club. When he was Commodore he had " rendezvous" for the
club at his Island, Coco Lobo. Nixon was a frequent visitor to Key
Biscayne and we all saw him on the beach, at the supermarket, etc. He was
VP at the time and had a villa next to the Key Biscayne Beach Club where
we were members and where we used to swim.
One more reality check for you Gaspar: Tommy Sikes was the KB Fire Chief
when I lived there. He had his own band and they used to entertain at the
yacht club in their own old US Navy LCU. Good times to be had by all
until during one concert the ship went down with all hands in the harbor.
Just as the Band on the Titanic they too played until they went under.
Ever read " The Flying White House : The Story of Air Force One. " ? Get
it. Look for a reference for John Handwerker. John Handwerker was my
pediatrician when I was a kid living on Key Biscayne. Handworker's middle
name was Valentine. He was also lame in one leg. I think he'd had polio.
John Handwerker was also involved in the Candace Mossler murder
investigation. Look that one up too, you crazy old bitch.
