A video has surfaced on the Internet that depicts Alaska Gov. Sarah
Palin telling a church gathering that the U.S. mission in Iraq is a
"task from God."
The video, which appears in a number of versions on YouTube, was taped
during the new Republican vice presidential candidate's June 2008 visit
to the Wasilla Bible Church in her current hometown of Wasilla, Alaska.
Palin tells the congregation that her son Track had just turned 19 and
was in the Army with a scheduled deployment to Iraq in September, and
she asks the gathering to pray for the "military men and women" in Iraq.
"Our leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," Palin
says. "There is a plan and that is God's plan."
She also states that the construction of a planned $30 billion natural
gas pipeline in Alaska is "God's will."
Says Palin: "God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies
to get that gas line built. So pray for that...
"We can work together to make sure God's will [is] done here."
Palin was originally baptized as a Roman Catholic, but her parents
switched to a Pentecostal church, where she was rebaptized. The Wasilla
Bible Church is an independent congregation.
