Bullfeathers, Frightened of Everyone. Back in the 1950s the juvies of the
day made zip guns. They weren't pretty, they weren't, and they weren't
accurate beyond 10-20 feet, but they could get the bloody job done. All it
takes is a hollow car radio antenna, a strong spring from a rat trap, a
nail, a piece of wood for the handle, a little black tape or duct tape, and
some .22 rim fire shells.
In Pakistan and similar Near and Middle Eastern countries, there are little
open air street side shops were the smithies can make a functional copy of
anything from an old flintlock to a Mauser to an AK47 using only hand tools.
I have a nearby friend who has a machine shop where he could, if he wanted
to, make any type of modern handgun or rifle you could name. He has made
blackpowder rifles from kits and has a family history of everyone in the
family being very familiar with firearms. His two sisters-in-law were on
the Olympic small bore rifle shooting team. From his 80-something father to
his brothers and their wives to nieces and nephews, shooting is as natural
as breathing.

Not that frequent an occurrence. Most shootings occur during the commission
of another crime, frequently over drugs or drug territory.
