Good. I hope the Chinese will wake-up from their conditioned ways.

then again... not likely.

The effect of a successful Olympics is to ....legitimize...the largest
Dictatorship in the history of humanity. That is why the
Chinese Communist Party wanted the Olympics so badly.
So they can claim to be legally and morally equal to
democracies.

Legitimizing dictatorships, is nothing less than a crime against humanity.
And it is the IOC and western money that is attempting this crime
at the expense of our future.

Whether any govt wants it or not, these Olympics are quickly
becoming a world-wide referendum on whether legitimacy
required recognizing our inalienable rights such as governing
by consent and freedom of speech.

It looks like China is attempting to paint everyone that opposes
the Olympics as terrorists. The bust today in China of supposed
Muslim terrorists and so on, their propaganda machine is
cranking up.

They managed to smear the falun gong pretty well, even creating
an entire govt ministry dedicated to doing nothing else, but this time
it should fall on deaf ears.

You are totally unreal. In the real world, 1.3 billion Chinese people
are legitimizing China internally. All nations are recognizing Tibet
as part of China and they are legitimizing China externally. The
Olympic games by itself does not add or take anything away. What
wetern leaders do over the Olympic games also will not change the
fact.

The US has done such a great job of painting Muslims as terrorist that
the Chinese would be daft to miss the opportunity!

Perhaps, but there does come a time when one should stop sleeping with
the enemy.

Boycotting the Olympics may not accomplish anything definitive but a
failure to boycott may well have the effect of lending aid and comfort
to genuinely nasty regimes.

The world might have been better served if the western democracies had
declined to participate in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Certainly hosting
the Olympics was something of a propaganda coup for the Nazis and lent
them some considerable prestige.
> Even the ancient Greeks set aside their wars to participate in the games.

Well, no. The Olympic truce was supposed to guarantee safe passage of
competitors and spectators on their way to the games but the conflicts
themselves went on.

For instance, Sparta attacked Elea in 420 BC and the Arcadians invaded
the sanctuary of Olympia itself in 364 BC.
