One the life's thrills for most people is to see impressive wildlife,
because they are generally elusive and don't linger in one place long.
I admire the professional photographers (and others) who are able to
capture these beautiful creatures with a camera to share with those of
us who will never see such a sight. I've had bald eagles drifting right
over my head and no camera along. I'm on top the highest hill around
and they are watching the water below for an unsuspecting fish they can
swoop down and grasp with their mighty talons. While they are drifting
far above the water, they aren't far above land when they pass by here.
Our National Symbol...and many Americans will never see one live. I
stand in awe when I am privileged to witness one, but they are pretty
common place out here to the life-long residents.

I'm surprised your woodpecker is so tame. Probably because he doesn't
have many enemies? He could peck most anything to death with that
bill...I wonder if he's looking for some work?? heh...
