OT: Liberal version of Foley?

Some lovely words from Jim Webb, Democrat candidate in Virginia...

In "Something to Die For" (1991) Webb has a character say: "'We're on our
way to becoming the world's recreational center, a nation not to be taken
seriously ... I can just see the billboards fifty years from now as you come
over the bridge and stop at the tollbooths outside Manhattan: A smiling,
beautiful naked woman, and the sign saying AMERICAN ASS IS OUR MOST
IMPORTANT PRODUCT.'"

In "Lost Soldiers," (2001) he writes: "Turning, he saw that she was fighting
back revulsion as she looked at his bluing face and his reddened, bark-hard
hands. And in that instant he hated her. I could have had you. He thought.
Not too many years ago you would have been begging me to take you."

The 2001 novel also recounts an episode involving a father and young son in
Thailand.

"A shirtless man walked toward them along a mud pathway. His muscles were
young and hard, but his face was devastated with wrinkles. His eyes were so
red they appeared burned by fire. A naked boy ran happily toward him from
the little plot of dirt. The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned
him upside down, and put the boy's penis in his mouth."

Wow, this is the dumbest accusation yet.
Webb writes fiction. Have you read any of his stuff? I've read _Fields of
Fire_ and while its not _Going After Cacciato_ it was a pretty good book
about Vietnam. I've also read _Lost Soldiers_. Pretty good stuff. Not
Pulitzer stuff, but not junk, either.
Sometimes in fiction characters say things that don't reflect author's point
of view. Good writers do that- you know, have characters say things they
don't agree with to move the story onward. Did you not know that? Did you
miss that in high school? Or is that in next semester's class?
Dirk, you should get out more. And read more.
Seriously.

Why should Dirk get out more? He's obviously comfortable with his ignorance
and closemindedness. At least he is consistent. Of course Dirk is not
going to tell you the whole story. Allen is being pressured to unseal
divorce records from a previous marriage. If you know why divorce records
are sealed, you'll know that Allen doesn't fit either category. It makes
one wonder what is in those records. Obviously something very damaging to
Allen.

Jack Cafferty summed it up nicely tonight when he said (roughly) that
our government is truly broken if we are spending time discussing the
fictional writings of a candidate rather than that candidate's position
on Social Security, foreign affairs, the Iraq War, border security and
the like. If Repubs want to attack Mr. Webb on his platform positions
that is one thing, but to claim he is unfit for the position he seeks
based on his fictional writings is completely preposterous.

...but that robotic killing machine supports stem cell research,
something Dirk The Daring is apparently against (progress).

But think of all the people he's murdered in his movies!

On that note, I often wonder who has the higher body count -
Schwarzeneggar, Stallone, Norris, Bronson, etc...
