And Paul Simon said of Bob Johnston's skills as a producer that he was
only there to see who wanted a sandwich. "Funny how my memory
slips...."

  The Yankees and Paul Simon

Author: kapeman
Date: Sep 23, 2008 03:55

Sun night was a historic night for New Yorkers, as we bade farewell to
hallowed ground in our midst, our beloved Yankee Stadium. It was a
very emotional night to say the least. In many hours of live tv
coverage of the event, many Yankees past and present were interviewed
about the
most significant memories they will preserve. Centerfielder Bernie
Williams
who played there for 16 years, following in the footsteps of legends
such as Bobby Murcer and Mickey Mantle listed his first game; winning
the 1996 World Series; winning the 1998 batting title; and the first
game after the Sept. 11 terror attacks as his career highlights. The
musician in Williams cited listening to Paul Simon’s sound check
before he honored Joe DiMaggio’s death by singing “Mrs. Robinson” in
1999 as another indelible memory...

Paul will be appearing at Town Hall in NYC on Tue Oct 7th as part of a
full evening to benefit an organization that promotes writing programs
for children. I imagine he will do a very brief set, or maybe just
one song??

The individual discs are available (you don't have to buy the whole
box anymore). All of Paul's solo albums are remastered with bonus
tracks. They can be purchased as cds or the bonus tracks themselves
can be purchased from one of the music sites (amazon, itunes, etc.).
Many of the unreleased tracks are excellent, excellent, excellent.
Most are demos with different (emerging) lyrics. Also included are a
couple of rare tracks: 'Stranded in a Limousine' and 'Soft Parachutes'
from 'One Trick Pony'.

For example, the bonus tracks from 'The Capeman' are

1. Shoplifting Clothes
2. Born in Puerto Rico (demo w/ Jose Feliciano)
3. Can I Forgive Him (original demo)
