>Yes, and Wyman's is by no stretch of the imagination the original
version as claimed above.
"If You Wanna Be Happy" was written by Carmela T. Guida, Frank J. Guida
and Joseph F. Royster (current publisher unknown). It was originally
recorded in 1963 by Jimmy Soul (real name: James McLeese) for S.P.Q.R.
Records, which version charted for 14 weeks that year, 2 of them at #1.
Besides Wyman and Kid Creole & the Coconuts, numerous cover versions
include ones by Barnes & Barnes (of "Fish Heads" fame) and Joe Dolce (of
"Shaddup You Face" fame).
There was also an "answer" record, "Never Pick a Pretty Boy", by Dee Dee
Sharp (Cameo Records, 1964; charted for one week at position #131).
Written by James J. Wisner and William E. Jackson, published by Legs
Music Inc. (administered by ABKCO Music Inc.).
Well, i don't claim to know EVERYTHING about music. Wyman's was the
first version i heard and that time period is more my period of interest
than the originals. I acknowledge my debt to this person for filliung in
that gap in my musical knowledge.
