So I took Bobs sv650 for a spin while wandering around Tortilla Flats
this past weekend, and have been riding mine the last couple of days.
For starters, the Gen I looks better than the Gen II, I like the
softer shape of things rather than the more angular look of the Gen
II. For all of that though, Bobs looks pretty good in red with the red
pipe. Sounds better than mine as well, not too loud, pops nicely under
overrun.
The rear suspension on Bobs Gen II is much better OEM than the Gen I,
I wouldn't have replaced the rear shock on mine if it was as good as
his, right outta the box. The front on his was okay, I think. It
seemed to compress more than a little under my ground hugging weight,
and then wasn't particularly compliant once I'd squashed it. For all
of the 30 miles I rode the Gen I with stock springs, that seems like
what I remember about it as well, except worse. Bobs still had enough
travel to be useful though, the Gen I was bad enough to go into the
weeds as soon as I bought it.
The vibes are about the same, low down it seems like my Gen I makes
less, high up the Gen II makes less, neither bike makes bad vibes, or
strong ones.
