so, if you were designing your perfect house, what things do
you think are indespensible?
so far, mine would be:
1) a mud room, with tile floors, a floor drain, a walk in pet
shower, a potting bench with sink & enough coat/leash hooks,
boot racks & mitten/hat baskets.
2) a power vent over the range, vented to the outside
3) a set tub in the laundry, which would have windows & an
outside door to a clothesline.
4) a greenhouse attached to the kitchen.
5) hot water heat (i *hate* forced air)
so, what do you dream of?

at least partially screened? i agree on the depth. a narrow
porch is pointless for sitting. it needs to be wide enough for
a couple comfy chairs & a small table. even better is room for
a 4' square/round table for board games & cards, with enough
roof overhang to be able to play on the porch even in the
rain.

oops! how did i miss this on my list! my mom has a fantastic
craft/sewing room in the house they built. built in cutting
table at exactly the right height with storage cubbies under,
2 walls of bookshelves, a window seat with cabinets under...

only one pony? ;-) you know, room for one for each rider in the family
might be really nice! and don't forget the stable boy for stall mucking!

hah! i'm not the only one! my plumber/heating guy gave me a
"you're crazy" look when i said i really wanted cast iron
radiators

funny how most of the recently bought & up for resale houses
are 'open floor plan, vaulted ceilings & electric heat' around
here, hmmm. design for the climate doesn't seem to be
considered :p

He has a small electric table top kiln at the moment. When we can afford a
larger one I'd like to be able to suggest he get one that could do both
glass and ceramic. He hand carves his molds for delicate things and is
working on some now for small picture frames for my work. His work is
marvelous. [no, i'm not biased, no no, not me]
