Hydrocodone

I know that we've discussed pain meds many times and in various ways. I
also know that many of you are on a stronger narcotic for pain than
Hydrocodone. However, I'm testing the waters to see if the surgeon who did
my hernia repair will prescribe Hydrocodone to me for break-through pain on
a regular basis. Here's why:

When I asked my Rheumy if he could prescribe something stronger for me than
Darvocet, he indicated that range of pain killer is as far as he could
prescribe (or wanted to, me thinks). Anyhow, a year ago I had a local
surgeon, who also reads my annual mammograms, do a hernia repair on me, and
he sent me home with 2 types of pain drugs: Darvocet (which I already take)
and Hydrocodone with a refill. It didn't take me long to find out which
works the best. Hydrocodone! It is also another step up in the opioids for
pain.

The pain from the surgery was really minimal, so I only had to use 2
Hydrocodone pills. The pain from Fibro and CMP is much worse! So, I began
to "ration" the pills and would only use Hydrocone when...

((((((((((((((((nanny))))))))))))))))))))))))
hydrocodone has never helped me....i am on ultram daily...and i had
asked my reg doc who does all my meds for something stronger just for
those really bad bad times(like i am having right this minute)...he
wouldnt give me anything..so i called my rheumy and HE was very
nice..he said he preferred my reg doc to do the prescription but he
would recommend percocet...so i get 20 percocet..no refills...but after
3 months last time when i was out my reg doc refilled it again...20
percs..no refils...i have just started on that 20...i also dont have
any inclination towards addiction and in fact most pain meds that
help(like perc) make me slightly nauseated...i am already on a lot of
darvon for the crohns...and it does NOT help the fibro at all...
someone once suggested that i go to a pain clinic...and i would if my
reg doc refused to listen to the rheumy...but my regular doc will do
anything if a specialist ok's it first..
i also know it varies by area....my friends in florida can get anything
they want for anything..like tincture of opium for crohns..and i cant
get that here in massachusetts...at least not in boston...(puritanism
still rules here)
good luck to you..keep after them til u get what u need...i dont ...

Hello Nanny,
I have been lucky enough to have a running script for Hydrocodone
which has certainly helped with my back pain. I got the original
script from my FL Neurologist (a saint in my book) and he write a
second script the next winter with refills.... I too had rationed the
pills that first year and still had some left. I didn't realize that
the pills loose their effectiveness with time. At this point I can
get the script from my own primary as he is well aware of the pain
problems.
I can/could not get such a prescription from my rhuemy. He believes
in exercise also and has stated negatives about people on disability
for FMS (he is a researcher and author of books dealing with FMS and
his wife has Fibro .. she works in his office and evidentally doesn't
need pain meds.... she...

No problemo!

I knew that...cuz although I cannot take the stuff, they still scribe
it for me 'just in case'...so that I will have it in case I have NO
CHOICE...(which means I take a pill, and plan on being like a drunken
sailor for a few days). I purposely asked for the one withOUT Tylenol
in it. I mean, as if my liver isn't at enough risk, right? When I
saw this, I grabbed my bottle (of the pills, not booze! LOL) and
typed. :-)

Giggs

No, it doesnt. Who told you that?

I think there have been so many posts here to this thread that we're all
a bit confused. I know I am! My previous post was in response to the
following post, which has nothing to do at all w/oxycodone, just
hydrocodone and Vicodin. You responded to Rosies remark that I would
know what the med in Vicodin is without the acetaminophen in it, and you
responded that that med in Vicodin without the tylenol in it is
oxycodone, and thats incorrect! Its hydrocodone. Heres what I was
responding to:

Oxycodone.

Your welcome, LooseC. Your info was correct, but it seemed to me that
there was still a lot of confusion about it so I posted it again in
slightly different form.

My pharmacist and my doctor...one the Oxycodone matter.

Who knows what the hell I responded to though before...I'm
misconfucked.

Now after reading all the other stuff, I realize what she was asking.
(Vicodin)
But I don't think you can get that (w/out tylenol) here, can ya?

So I was talking about the oxy, and you were talking about the
hydro...and they're all make out of ticky tack and they all look just
the same :-) There's a blue one, there's a red one, there's a green
one and a yellllllow one! LOL
