An Indianan woman has stabbed herself in the foot with a sword in a
failed attempt to conduct a Wicca ceremony.
Katherine Gunther, 36, of Lebanon, Indiana, was supposed to be
piercnig the ground with the three-foot sword but instead stabbed her
left foot as the sword went awry.

She probably didn't know it was loaded.
Let that be a lesson to all of you. The practice of magick is indeed
dangerous. Beware of toasters, too.

St. Patrick is said to have done this to a king's foot with the point of his
staff during a ritual. The king stood there the entire ritual unmoving and
not complaining. When Patrick looked down and discovered his error, he
immediately pulled the staff out and inquired why the king had not moved or
complained. The king explained that he thought the piercing was all part of
the ritual.
Things like this give us an idea of what Pagan ritual may have been like at
that time although I admit that my mind keeps envisioning Patrick stabbing
his own foot. :-) Maybe there would have been a rash of imitators?
