This makes me sad:

It's a few minuets after midnight, and it was my birthday yesterday.
I guess something like this is bound to happen on your birthday every
now and again. If you think about it then it isn't really a major
disaster. Only 7 people died.. But over 50 cars fell as the bridge
collapsed. I could even feel the ground giving out today, as I walked
past an old broken down bridge on a hike today. My friend was feeling
it too, and we both stopped to wonder about it. Kind of just ruins my
whole celebration. I wanted to see a sign on my birthday more &
anything, but nothing good ever seems to come over asking for signs.
So I didn't even make a wish today, when I blew out he candle on the
snacks I ate at the bar. Only to hope that the candle didn't start a
fire & burn the whole place down..........

I'm glad you feel sad, from a half a continent away. And yeah, shit
happens on birthdays. Katrina happened on mine.

Just don't try to tell me that you can 'feel' anything. You are not
here. I am. I am the one who saw the moon which was so obscured by dust
that it could hardly be seen. I'm the one who was on the phone for an
hour making sure that none of my friends or family were on that bridge.
I'm the one who had to hold it together at work so that we could get
things accomplished, and so that none of the actors would start an
emotional chain reaction. I'm the one who has a tension headache now
that's three miles wide, and I'm the one who knows that one of my actors
hasn't heard from her son since he started off on his evening commute
. . .and would have been on the bridge at the time.
