...oops, materialism is such a pretty word, and 'mechanism' as per its
physical definition was just too tempting... You aren't referring to
physical mechanisms. Erm, come to think of it, I don't know what
nomenclature should afford reference to mechanisms as.

...and then I default to the physically obvious again- any internal, mental
manipulation of a more 'automatic' nature or 'feel' would essentially
comprise hardwired circuitry (in one's head) with characteristics comparable
in effect to a mechanism...
