And a big hello to the druids. We're reading Isaac Bonewits 'Real
Magic' chapter by chapter.
In this chapter Isaac has a few basic points. For much of this chapter
colour is just chosen as an example.
Although we have a scientific standard for colours, based on
wavelength, intensity and so on, it doesn't mean that we all 'see' the
same thing. This is more than how do we know how green looks the same
for two different people. We return to Isaac's theme of association.
There is the physical interpretation. We all have synesthesia, to a
greater or lesser extent, which can affect our reaction to colours
(also a possible factor in the development of words). Then we have our
personal experiences related to different colours. Followed by our
cultural associations, which may well have historical associations.
One implication of this is that magical correspondences aren't True
with a capital 'T'. They can be made more relevant by both
understanding their cultural context and personalising them.

How... unconsciously self-contradictory. Which seems to be a
recurring theme throughout this book.

Then he takes his place among the pantheon of occult luminaries who were
themselves thoroughly unscrupulous charlatans and beggars. If you're
looking for scruples and honesty, occultism is not the life-philosophy for
you. Try the Quakers, maybe.

Anybody with even a modicum of skill at internet marketing can make a little
something off credulous occultists. It's not a large market, but it doesn't
discriminate much. The old centers of occult thought, the occult publishing
houses, are in decline. Electronic publishing and other innovations are
seriously cutting into the take. There are no "Chosen People" controlling
who makes money selling occult theories, practices, and/or trinkets.
